Some call it Dutch wax, others refer to it as Ntoma (shout out to my Ghanians!) but here at Cultureville the African print fabric we call Ankara is the backbone of all our designs. Although it may have its origins in the Netherlands and is inspired by Indonesian batik, Ankara as we know it with its vibrant, bold and colourful prints is a reflection of African culture.
Cultureville was created out of a desire to showcase our African heritage with Ankara fabrics that reflect the boldness and beauty of prints available in Africa while incorporating styles that reflect the everyday ease of western clothing.
African print is fundamental to our designs as it represents a true image of our African heritage. African prints can be trendy but can also be symbolic, represent different countries and convey messages e.g. friends of the bride wearing the same fabrics (aso ebi).

Our fabrics are high in quality and sourced by our reputable suppliers from Abuja, Nigeria. Our dedicated operations consultant located in Abuja works hard to filter the fabrics that meet our high quality standards and are tested for their colour fastness and wear.
I consider Ankara a pleasure to wear and believe it should be worn with pride. A great property of Ankara is that it can be used to produce an array of designs from occasional wear e.g. special events to everyday casual wear. We keep up with trends and seasons to make sure the pieces stand out in our customer’s wardrobes.
We recognise that there are occasions where clients may require day to day pieces from our collections so we intentionally stock a wide variety of Ankara fabrics to choose from. As well as bold & bright prints, we provide clients with the option to choose fabrics which have understated patterns. In addition, we design styles in alternative fabrics including as crepe, lace and chiffon.
We understand the importance of individuality therefore we allow clients to customise styles by choosing their own fabric from our seasonal ranges. This ensures that you are not limited to the patterns that you see on our designs, you can be unique and if you really like a design you can get in multiple prints. We love Ankara and the fact that it has grown to be more prominent in modern fashion is a pleasure to observe. Cultureville is here to fulfil your Ankara desires and more in a stylish and ethical way.
