Adinkra is a cotton cloth produced in Ghana which has traditional Akan symbols stamped upon it. The adinkra symbols represent popular proverbs and record historical events and traditions. Adinkra is often identifiable by its unique abstract shapes. Popular Adinkra symbols include Gye Nyame 'except God' and Sankofa 'Go back (to your roots)'.
